Arne Slot Insists He Feels Safe and Has Liverpool's Backing Following PSV Defeat
Arne Slot acknowledged that it was natural for concerns to be asked about his position after another heavy defeat versus PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool endured their ninth loss in twelve matches, representing the team's poorest run after being demoted in 1953-54.
They were taken apart by the Dutch league title holders on a tough evening at their home ground.
“I feel secure, I am OK, I have got plenty of support from above,” the coach commented.
“It would be great to reverse this trend and secure a win obviously but when you're coaching a team and struggling then it's expected that questions are asked.”
He noted, “I am OK with my position. This isn't the initial instance I’ve been in a tough spot but it's crucial that we improved our results.”
Conversations with Liverpool Hierarchy
When asked to expand on his dialogues with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach said:
“We communicate frequently. They assist to the team and to me and those talks happen but they don't phone me constantly of the day to say they have faith in me.”
He further stated, “In the normal discussions I sense the confidence. However I haven’t spoken to them since this match so far so let’s see.”
Recurring Failings and Player Response
The manager lamented known failings from his team in their European loss, specifically missed opportunities and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more direct in his assessment of the club’s predicament.
“I haven't got the solutions. Honestly, I do not. I’m saying that to everyone,” the midfielder said.
“It's simply not good enough. I don’t even have to wait to consider it. I’m past being angry internally. I've reached the stage now where I simply lack the vocabulary.”
He went on, “It's tough because I play for the side I follow. I support them, and I’ve seen this club all my life.”
“For many years, I've not seen a Liverpool team enduring a period such as this with outcomes this poor.”
Jones finished, “However we continue to wear the crest on our shirts. And as long as it is removed, we'll continue to battle.”
“We’re going to try to get this team return to its rightful place, demonstrate to all once more the values of this club and why it's known as the greatest side in the planet.”
“But right now, things are bad and it needs to change.”
