Catastrophe Strikes as Unintentional Detonation at Police Station in Indian-administered Kashmir Takes Nine Deaths
A tragic blast at a police station in the Indian-controlled part of Kashmir has led to the loss of nine individuals and injuries to thirty-two others, according to police declarations.
The incident took place when a cache of impounded blast substances unintentionally detonated during management operations.
Sequence of Events
The detonation occurred on the evening of Friday at the Nowgam law enforcement facility, where blast substances seized from Faridabad in the northern state of Haryana province were being held provisionally.
Area security director announced that the blast materials were scheduled for forensic examination when a "very unfortunate" mishap during handling caused their detonation at approximately 23:20 in the evening.
Police Announcements
Police authorities asserted that this was an "accidental detonation" and rather than a terrorist attack. "Different conjectures regarding the origin of this incident is unneeded," emphasized the security director during a journalist meeting.
The police station suffered severe damage from the blast, with adjacent buildings also being impacted by the strong explosion.
Aftermath and Fatalities
Numerous cars were "engulfed in flames and reduced to charred husks, with fragments distributed across the site," according to authority statements.
"The intensity of the detonation was so extreme that some body parts were found in close-by residences, approximately between 100 and 200 meters from the police station," stated an police contact.
The majority of the casualties were law enforcement personnel, along with technical investigation team, two crime scene photographers, and a garment worker who was accompanying the group.

The region's Lieutenant Governor stated sympathies and announced that an inquiry had been ordered into the catastrophic occurrence.
