“That was unfortunate. That was kind of an interaction with our fans seated near me,” Jones explained during a Tuesday interview. “Present was a swarm of Cowboys fans—not Jets fans, our fans. The whole venue was filled with excitement for the Dallas team.”
Jones additionally emphasized that the gesture was entirely unintentional, happening amid the elation following the team’s last score. “I just put up the incorrect digit,” he noted. “It was accidentally done. This is sincere. If you want to call it unplanned, you can. However, it got corrected pretty quick.”
League Precedent for Owner Fines
This is not the first time an NFL owner has been fined for inappropriate behavior. Previous cases include:
- Carolina Panthers proprietor Tepper was penalized $300K for tossing a beverage at spectators in early 2024.
