The child of former South African President Jacob G Zuma has denied all charges to terror charges at the start of her legal proceedings in the coastal city of the city of Durban.

The defendant, 43 years old, is being tried over remarks she published on digital networks in the past during deadly protests in South Africa that occurred subsequent to the arrest of her father.

A period of chaos in multiple regions of the country in July 2021, including theft and intentional burning, left at least 300 individuals killed and resulted in damage worth an approximate 2.8 billion dollars (£2.2bn).

Zuma-Sambudla has been accused of inciting this violence and is charged with allegations of incitement to commit terror acts and civil unrest.

History of the Legal Matter

The demonstrations were concentrated in the areas of Gauteng region and KwaZulu-Natal province and followed the former president's detention for defying a judicial ruling to appear as a witness at an investigation into allegations of impropriety while he was serving as president.

Ms Zuma-Sambudla has consistently refuted the charges against her, with her lawyer earlier calling the government's case as insufficient.

She has also frequently stated the charges against her were an effort to settle political disputes with her parent after he started his own political party and campaigned against the ANC.

Backing and Court Representation

This was supported by the Zuma foundation, which stated the legal matter was an "power abuse" and a "systematic campaign" of "politically motivated and family-related targeting" against the former president and his family.

A small number of supporters from her political organization, the political party, turned up outside the provincial high court, while her dad and other group representatives attended the court sessions inside.

Her legal team has argued that the testimony presented by government lawyers is inadequate and does not have compelling proof for a conviction.
