Ex- Doctor Accused of Sexual Assault Charges Involving 38 Patients

Prosecutors have announced that a former physician now faces charges for carrying out sexual assaults against thirty-eight victims who were under his care.

Details of the Serious Charges

The accused, Nathaniel Spencer from Birmingham is accused of dozens of sexual offences – including acts against minors under the age of thirteen – between 2017 and 2021.

One deputy chief CPS official stated, “Legal teams have diligently worked to assist a thorough and intricate police inquiry, carefully reviewing the available evidence to determine that there is a strong case to bring the case to trial and that it is in the interest of justice.”

Scope of the Investigation

The charges come after what police called a “complex investigation” into reported sexual offences at two hospitals: a hospital in Stoke-on-Trent and a facility in Dudley.

Spencer will appear at the local magistrates' court on 20 January.

Breakdown of Charges

The charging documents said the 45 sexual offences comprise:

  • 15 counts of assault.
  • Seventeen counts of penetrative assault.
  • Nine counts of assault on a minor under thirteen.
  • 3 counts of assault of a child under 13 by penetration.
  • 1 count of attempting to assault by penetration.

Police have asked anyone with concerns to get in touch with the relevant police force.
