Her Royal Highness's Traditional Christmas Musical Celebration Pays Tribute to Unsung Heroes

Her Royal Highness has organised her annual Christmas carol concert at Westminster Abbey, with a congregation comprising dignitaries, stars, and everyday helpers who have made a difference in their neighbourhoods.

The 1,600 guests will hear a mix of carols, music and readings from actors such as Chiwetel Ejiofor and Kate Winslet.

A Theme of Kindness and Compassion

The focus of the event, held in the glowing Westminster Abbey on the afternoon, is generosity and expressing affection towards one's neighbour.

Attending the event are a couple named the Cordiners, whose young girl was lost to a brain cancer, and who founded an organisation, a support fund, to support families who have a terminally ill child.

"The time, care and compassion you give, often quietly and unspoken, and without any thought of thanks or praise, make an profound impact to the well-being of people," Her Royal Highness stated in a message before the concert.

A Gradual Return

The Princess of Wales is continuing her own gradual return to public life after her cancer diagnosis and chemotherapy, in November making her major oration since 2023, in which she talked about recognising the "quiet, often invisible work of caring".

Music and Opportunity

Those coming to the Abbey will enjoy performances from young musicians backed by the Future Talent charity, co-founded by the former royal to widen access to musical tuition.

Carys Wood, aged 18, who performs on the trumpet and is from Wales, has been assisted by the trust, with grants helping towards musical instruments, lessons and travel costs - and she said it was "amazing" to be taking part in the evening's event.

"Music can be very expensive," Carys said. She is now studying at the renowned conservatoire, and added that "all people deserve the chance" to hone their artistic talents.

A Sisterly Duo

Eliza, Carys's sister who is 11, who plays the euphonium, will likewise attend the Abbey. "I never imagined I would perform in front of so many notable figures," she said.

Among the guests will be people from various age groups.

That will feature young Saphia Turner, nine, winner of a prize for youthful altruism, who creates and sells art and completes fundraising tasks to generate funds for local food charities.

Yuletide Atmosphere and Acts

The Abbey has been festooned with handcrafted festive wreaths, with TV cook Mary Berry and florist Simon Lycett contributing to their design.

Among the musical performers will be Katie Melua, the Abbey's own choir and a Cornish sea shanty group, Fisherman's Friends, who said the chance to take part was "a dream come true."

The Together at Christmas carol concert will be televised and shown on television on December 24th.
