Los Angeles Experiences Record-Breaking High Temperatures Just Days After Major Winter Storm.
After enduring heavy downpours that caused flooding across areas in the city, Los Angeles is now confronting abnormally warm temperatures for late February.
Record-Shattering Temperatures
By Friday afternoon, the temperature soared to 91°F (33°C) in downtown Los Angeles, per data from meteorologists. This easily surpasses the prior high for this date, which was 31 degrees Celsius (88 Fahrenheit) and was recorded in the previous year.
"Unusually high temperatures" were highlighted on forecast charts for the region.
Safety Warnings
The weather service stated that Friday's weather posed an "increased danger for heat illness" for people sensitive to heat. Their guidance included:
- Drinking plenty of fluids.
- Avoiding outdoor activities during the peak heat of the day.
- Not leaving kids or animals unattended in a hot car.
An Extreme Shift
This dramatic increase in heat follows closely after a intense winter storm that battered the region last week. That event delivered heavy snow, strong winds, and thunderstorms to mountainous regions, leading to evacuation orders for countless residents.
Sadly, the storm also resulted in a large avalanche in the Tahoe area, which left nine people dead from.
Weekend Outlook
Looking ahead cooler conditions will arrive. Temperatures were predicted to fall to around sixty-one degrees Fahrenheit in central Los Angeles by Friday night.
Other locales that experienced ninety degrees were Burbank, Woodland Hills, and Long Beach. Elsewhere, Santa Maria, Oxnard, Camarillo, and Westwood were expected to reach the high eighties.
For the weekend, central LA can expect readings in the eighties, with mid-70s temperatures expected for the start of March.
