Manchester United Poised to Secure German Striker Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich
The Women's Super League club are finalising completing the signing for prolific German forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Major Signing for United
The forward, with half a year remaining on her deal, is known as a consistent goalscorer for her club and the national team. Having scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. This signing is viewed as a major signing for the Women’s Super League team.
Her exit from Bayern has been anticipated since she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the German club’s fans after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
It was reported in late December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its leading strikers. According to multiple sources, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.
Consistent Goalscoring to Strengthen the Forward Line
The experienced striker's arrival is expected to provide a significant boost to United’s attacking options. She has been remarkably consistent with her finishing in the Bundesliga.
- Over seven straight seasons, including the last term, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She won the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Building Momentum at Old Trafford
The acquisition of the German international comes at a time when United seem to be building momentum.
Recent on-pitch successes feature securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the mid-season window has brought further business:
- The signing of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since arriving in 2023.
Regarding the midfielder's new deal, a senior figure commented: “Miyazawa is now a critical part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability allows her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”
The new defender, having arrived from a side from the American league, added: “You can feel how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
