Outrage as Popular South African DJ Shot Dead in the Heart of Johannesburg.
A renowned South African media personality and entertainer has been murdered in the country's largest city Johannesburg, causing national outrage across a nation battling persistent crime.
Warrick Stock, who went by the name DJ Warras, was attacked in the downtown area on the afternoon of Tuesday.
Authorities reported the 40-year-old entertainer was confronted by a trio of assailants, one of whom began shooting at him before fleeing on foot.
The purpose of the attack has not been established and no one has been arrested have taken place, as per the official statement.
The Fatal Incident
Authorities said that Stock was targeted as he was exiting a location in the vicinity of the Carlton Centre.
He had been present for hours at the building managing the installation of security systems, which had been illegally inhabited by squatters, according to reports.
"Authorities believe the deceased was approached by three unidentified men after he parked his car, and they began shooting at him before running from the location on foot," authorities stated.
Security camera video reportedly captured a man with dreadlocks and dressed in what looked like a protective services outfit shooting on Stock before making his escape.
The DJ attempted to flee after he was shot but fell down a short distance away.
It was further revealed that Stock had an unused firearm and nothing was taken during the assault.
Key evidence, like cartridges, were found at the crime scene.
Investigation Ongoing
Authorities have requested members of the public who may have have information to assist with the investigation.
"Evidence suggests they walked a long distance after the attack, and officers have been following their trail to find their whereabouts," stated a police chief.
A Nation in Mourning
His family member, Nicole Stock, expressed the relatives are devastated to come to terms with the loss.
"I am devastated. I am shattered," she said.
"Everyone understood he was a voice for many people. He spoke out bravely about topics not many people were ready to speak about. This is a devastating blow."
She urged the community to not sharing disturbing footage from the incident, explaining this was an incredibly difficult time, above all for Stock's children.
His Professional Legacy
Stock was the star of Ngicel' iVisa, a television program that aired on a South African broadcasting platform.
Apart from his role as a presenter, Stock was involved in various commercial activities, including private security, offering elite guarding services and protecting high-profile events across South Africa.
He was also understood to participate in property management and was involved in building evictions.

His killing has shocked the country and led to an wave of remembrances from his followers, the authorities and political parties.
A senior figure remarked he was outraged and heartbroken by Stock's untimely death.
"He was forthright without fear or favour. He even criticized me and my decisions as a public official. He was a shining model of who we must aspire to be," he stated.
A party figurehead commented the "brazen murder of DJ Warras in the middle of the day is a trauma for all South Africans".
A broadcasting director said that "DJ Warras was not merely a TV personality. He was a gifted communicator, a passionate music lover and a kind-hearted individual who brought happiness and vitality to every moment on screen. His commitment to his craft left an lasting impression."
In a communication, the network he worked for declared Stock was known for his magnetism, approachability and sharp wit, adding that his influence "will endure".
A National Challenge
South Africa, the region's leading economy, has one of the globally elevated murder rates, exacerbated by property crime and syndicate wars, with some 63 people murdered daily between April and September, as per police data.
