Toy Story 5 Teaser Pits The Beloved Duo Versus a Digital Device
Exactly 30 anniversary after the first Toy Story movie was released, establishing Pixar as a major animation studio and introducing audiences to beloved figures like Woody (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.
Coming in 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed this week, providing a glimpse into the plot but keeping viewers wondering how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Gang
The preview shows the young girl — who received Andy's toys when he grew up — receiving a latest toy, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. Bonnie gets her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.
Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like the rest of her playthings. However, the toys seem to view it as a danger coming to replace them, which it likely will.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
An element the trailer avoids is why the sheriff is back with his companions in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (the actress), journeying with a carnival and helping prize toys locate loving owners.
Certainly, Pixar will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him appear in the familiar setting without warning is a little strange, however. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have returned with him. And what about the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?
Continuity from the Previous Film
Fortunately, some aspects are carrying over from the prior film. The last thing Woody did before setting off for his new life was hand over his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), leaving her as the leader of the toy domain. In the teaser displays the insignia attached to her outfit.
Hopefully she is remains the key figure among the toys.
Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
