‘We Will Miss Him Terribly’: The Actress Meg Ryan Posts Moving Tribute to Director Rob Reiner

Meg Ryan has posted a tribute to the deceased director Rob Reiner, who was her director in the beloved romantic comedy When Harry Met Sally.

A Devastating Incident

Reiner was found dead with his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, at their Los Angeles home this past weekend.

“Oh how we will miss this man…” Ryan shared on Instagram, alongside a picture of them together. “We thank you, Rob and Michele, for your belief in true love, fairy tales, and laughter. Your trust in people's goodness and your love for this nation are remembered.”

Legal Proceedings Unfold

Reiner’s son Nick, 32, is accused of two counts of first-degree murder and made a court appearance today. He’s being detained without the option of bail. It’s been reported that Reiner’s daughter Romy was the one who located her father.

“I must hold onto hope that their tale doesn't conclude here, that awareness can be heightened from this,” Ryan went on to write. “I don’t know, but my guess is that they would want that to be hopeful and humane, to be something that brings us all to a greater understanding of one another and to some peace.”

A Statement from Siblings

Reiner’s other children Jake and Romy released a message today. “Language fails to capture the daily agony we endure,” they said. “The horrific and devastating loss of our parents, Rob and Michele Reiner, is something that no one should ever experience. They weren’t just our parents; they were our best friends.”

Hollywood Tributes Pour In

Ryan’s co-star, Billy Crystal, joined in remembering Reiner with a statement shared yesterday alongside tributes from Larry David, Martin Short and Albert Brooks.

“No one matched his comic instinct, his dedication to rhythmic dialogue, or his elegant sharpening of drama,” the statement said. “He cherished performers and improved scribes. His finest trait was granting creative liberty. He valued input and made you part of the team. Everyone felt like part of a crew. His direction was a gift, but his legacy is broader.”

An Enduring Filmography

When Harry Met Sally was a box office and critical triumph in 1989, earning over $93 million globally and securing Nora Ephron an Oscar nomination for best original screenplay.

Rob Reiner met Michele Singer Reiner whilst filming When Harry Met Sally. The pair were introduced by Barry Sonnenfeld, a fellow filmmaker and pal.

Reiner’s notable filmography featured classics such as Misery, Stand by Me and The Princess Bride. The director and his wife were together in marriage for 36 years.
